What's On

Sunday

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Breaking of Bread

Christians meet together to remember the Lord Jesus in His death (sometimes referred to as communion). This was requested by Jesus when He met with His disciples at the last supper before He died on the cross. See 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 23 to 26. This is done by breaking bread and drinking wine together as we worship Him.

The service is 'open' for the leading of God's Holy Spirit. This means there is no pre-set order of service and no leader; we look to the Holy Spirit to lead us as He gives to first one then another a hymn, Bible reading or prayer. We do this because we believe that the instructions found in the Bible, in particular 1 Corinthians chapters 11 to 14, are meant to be taken at face value and followed in today's church.

Because of the instructions at the end of chapter 14 (verses 34 to 38), we follow the practice that only the men take part in the conduct of the service, for example leading in prayer. This does not mean we think women are less important or that their presence is less vital. Although they remain silent, except for singing, they contribute equally to the prayer and worship of the church.

All are welcome, and all those who love the Lord and have found salvation in Him are welcome to take part.

12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Sunday Club

This is our Sunday School, for children aged 3 and over.

Most of our children are collected from home by our leaders using the Heathfield Gospel Hall minibus or private cars. All of our Sunday Club leaders are members of Heathfield Gospel Hall and have been DBS checked.

We have a theme for each month and look at Bible stories, sing choruses and learn a memory verse related to that theme. Each week also includes a celebration for any child with a birthday and a short game or quiz. We split into age-related groups to spend more time learning about the Bible, through discussion and worksheets (for the older group) to Lego-modelling and puzzles (for the younger group).

We come back together at the end to pray and sing again.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Evening Service (except on 'Sunday at Six' Sundays)

The first half of the meeting contains a prayer, notices, 'thought for the day' or poem and congregational singing - usually a mixture of traditional hymns and modern choruses.

We may have an evangelistic talk, sharing the good news about Jesus, a talk about a passage from the Bible or by a Christian organisation about their work. Speakers may be in the hall in person or appear via Zoom.

The evening service can be accessed by being in the hall or via Zoom - please contact us for the access code.

Once a month we hold 'Sunday at Six'. We have informal, cafe-style seating and the evening includes craft, a quiz and a short talk followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome and the evening is family-friendly. Sunday at Six is held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m..

Monday

8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Ladies Fellowship

The Ladies Fellowship is held in the hall and, when practical, via Zoom.

We usually have between 10 and 15 ladies at the Ladies Fellowship each week and visitors are always welcome.

We have a varied programme of activities throughout the year. Once a month we have a Bible study.  We also have Bible-based talks, quizzes and games evenings.  We hold members' evenings where everyone is invited to share a favourite hymn or Bible verse, read a poem or a 'thought for the day'.  We also have several social evenings spread throughout the year, from a fish and chip supper to an evening walk and a Christmas party.

Wednesday

8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Prayer Meeting and Bible Reading

The meeting starts with a hymn, then we have a time of prayer.

We practice conversational Bible study, although often someone will present an introduction to the passage.

Occasionally, the usual format is replaced by an talk by a visiting speaker or by listening to or watching recorded ministry.

Friday

10:00 a.m. - 12 noon Coffee Morning

This is usually held on the first Friday of each month. Proceeds are used to support the work of PROKIN, a Christian organisation that runs a children's home in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Evening - Football Practice

This is usually held twice a month at Shavington Leisure Centre, on a 7-a-side Astroturf pitch. Each session ends with a short, Bible-based talk.
